The Coquitlam Food Truck Festival is an annual event that features a couple of dozen food vendors and an artisan market at Town Centre Park in June.
It’s one of nine or so similar events put on by the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival each year. Until COVID-19 came along, other locations in 2020 were going to be Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Cloverdale, Guildford, Langley, Maple Ridge, Port Moody and Willowbrook. In the end they all got either cancelled or postponed.
In 2021 a number of food truck-related events are happening, although in drive-thru formats. For details click Vancouver Drive-Thru Events.
Food Truck Festival at Town Centre Park
In years when it does take place, the Coquitlam Food Truck Festival is a great event at a beautiful venue. There is live music and a wide selection of food to choose from. At the park there is also a fabulous kids’ play area and a beautiful walking trail around Lafarge Lake.
When and Where
In 2020 the Coquitlam Food Truck Festival was supposed to take place on Saturday June 6th from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm, but it was postponed to September 27th due to COVID-19. 2021 dates and details are to be confirmed.
The event happens at Coquitlam‘s Town Centre Park which is located at 1299 Pinetree Way.
The trucks usually set up in the parking lot just off Trevor Wingrove Way which is between Lafarge Lake and Percy Perry Stadium.
What to Expect
In years when there isn’t a pandemic, at the Coquitlam Food Truck Festival you can expect to see twenty or more food truck vendors, up to ten or so artisan vendors, and a musician or band playing live music. On a sunny day you can also expect to see several hundred people, all munching on various tasty treats. Paw Patrol characters are also frequently seen walking around, waving at children and posing for photos.
In 2021, because of COVID-19, if the event happens, expect to see a smaller number of participating vendors. The event will likely be in a drive-thru-style format too.
In 2019, some of the food truck vendors included Guerilla Q BBQ, Slavic Rolls, Tacofino, Taste of Malaysia and Teriyaki Express. Other favourites included Rocky Point Ice Cream, Lenny’s Lemons, Cravings Kettle Corn and Cannoli King.
Artisan vendors at the event in 2019 sold everything from superhero books to jewellery, handmade chocolates, soaps, cookies and other fancy items.
Also at the event in 2019 was a mobile Escape Room, face painting station and photo booth.
Tips and Advice
Below are some suggestions to help you make the most out of your visit to the Coquitlam Food Truck Festival.
TIP #1: Take public transit if you can. The Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain Station is just a short walk away.
TIP #2: Town Centre Park is a beautiful park with a wide range of amenities. If you have young children don’t forget to spend time at the playground and water park. Lafarge Lake is also a wonderful spot to walk around.
TIP #3: If you like barbecued ribs be sure to check out the menu at Guerilla Q (if you see them). They have some especially tasty stuff! And if you like Mexican, then Tacofino is also an excellent choice and they are frequently at this event! It’s hard to go wrong with food truck cuisine, but these are two of our favourites!
