Reapers Maze of Terror

Surrey’s Dreadworks Haunted Halloween Attraction

Dreadworks wasn’t your typical haunted house. Its creators described it as “immersive live theatre” with a decidedly spooky flavour. The experience took place in a mythical realm called Somnara where participants joined Lucas on a desperate quest to rescue his sister, Abby, from Erebane, a monster of chaos set on dismantling the Dreadworks and overthrowing the corrupted Dream Lord, X’aroketh.

Where and When?

Dreadworks Haunted House used to take place at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Surrey. The venue’s address is 17728 64th Avenue.

The attraction ran from late September until early November in 2024. The haunted house debuted last year and operated on Wednesdays to Sundays from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm. The whole experience ran for about an hour.

Unfortunately, this Halloween attraction won’t be happening this year nor likely in the foreseeable future.

How Much Does Dreadworks Cost?

When it ran, admission to Dreadworks cost between $48 and $68 (plus taxes and fees) depending on the day. Certain days were designated as Value Nights ($48), General Nights ($58) and Premium Nights ($68). Tickets were generally more expensive on weekends and the closer you got to Halloween. You couldf also pay extra for certain upgrades and extra features.

Below is a summary of last year’s prices and the various categories.

  • Value Nights ($48): An affordable option for those who wanted to enjoy the full Dreadworks experience.
  • General/Regular Nights ($58): A standard offering with all the thrills and chills of the haunted attraction, plus a standard version of their performance.
  • Premium Nights ($68): Featuring exclusive performances and limited capacities.

Other Costs and Extra Features

For those who wanted extra features and an enhanced experience, there were VIP Passes. They cost around $98 to $105 and included a parking pass, food and drink, immediate attraction access, and a swag bag.

For those who wanted some of the perks of the VIP Pass, but not all of them, you could instead pay for some upgrade features separately. A Fast Pass cost between around $26 and $28 extra depending on when you went. It allowed you to enter the attraction via a shorter, faster line. If you wanted Immediate Access, where you could go in without hardly having to wait at all, that upgrade cost around $49 to $53. Parking for everyone cost $10 when purchased in advance online.

What to Expect at Dreadworks Haunted House

Dreadworks was more than just a haunted house – it was an all-encompassing, 4D horror experience that transported guests into a world of nightmares. Imagine you stepped into a live-action horror film where you were not just watching the terror unfold, but you were right in the middle of it. Designed by experts from the theatre and film industries, this attraction was full of immersive theatrical elements that heightened the fear factor.

You could expect cutting-edge visual effects, dynamic lighting, and an eerie soundscape that kept you on edge. Carefully crafted scents added to the atmosphere that made for a fully multi-sensory experience.

Dreadworks spanned multiple intricately designed indoor sets, ensuring that once inside, you were ghoulishly protected from the elements. While the midway, food trucks and stage show were outdoors, the haunted house itself offered complete shelter from the weather.

Dreadworks Haunted House offered a unique wristband system to ensure the experience catered to all levels of fear tolerance.

  • Green Wristbands: This level included physical interaction, such as being grabbed by actors or separated from your group. Green was for those who dared to experience it all.
  • Yellow Wristbands: No touching, but braced yourself for all the psychological and visual scares.
  • Red Wristbands: A more controlled experience with no physical contact which made it perfect for those who preferred their horror toned down. If one person in a group wore red, the whole group shared the toned-down experience.

Dreadworks Video

Check out the video below for what the attraction was like to experience. You’ll see scenes of Dreadworks Haunted House from both inside and outside the attraction. The first scenes are of what we saw mostly outdoors when we went. There was a lot to see, including roaming scary characters. Indoors the place was full of even more freaky monsters which you’ll see in the second half of the video.

What you won’t see in the video is the pre-show performance which took place on select nights on a stage at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre (where Dreadworks took place). You also won’t see so many of the interior sets, which were amazing, but also very dark and so not so easy for us to film without special lighting.

The costumes, makeup, sets and acting at Dreadworks Haunted House were impressive.

Tips & Advice

Before you plunged into the nightmare that is Dreadworks, below were some key things you needed to keep in mind.

TIP #1: Dreadworks Haunted House was your go-to destination if you craved intense, spine-chilling scares. Designed to deliver an intense and exhilarating experience, the attraction was definitely satisfying for those who enjoyed a good scare.

TIP #2: Dreadworks delivered an immersive horror experience. Guests under 18 had to have a guardian sign a waiver.

TIP #3: If attendeeds were unsure about their ability to handle the full intensity, they could opt for the red wristband. If attendeeds thrived on fear, they could you go with friends who were equally bold, or split into smaller groups to match their desired level of terror. If one person in the group wore a red wristband, the entire group could not opt for green. This ensured no one was overly freaked out and that everyone enjoyed the experience at a comfortable level.

TIP #4: There were strobe lights throughout the attraction, which probably was not suitable for those with epilepsy or light sensitivities.

TIP #5: Attendees could only wear costumes on special designated costume nights. Halloween masks were also not permitted. Nor were gore-focused makeup or SFX makeup that drastically altered attendees’ facial appearance. This ensured a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.

TIP #6: If you happen to be in the area regardless of this attraction not happening anymore, stop by the Museum of Surrey. Located nearby in Cloverdale, it’s a great spot for a family-friendly outing.
