
The Fort Langley National Historic Site is a terrific attraction in Metro Vancouver. The place hosts numerous events and celebrations throughout the year.
Admission to the fort is very affordable, especially for children and youth ages 17 and under (who get in for free)!
Vive Les Voyageurs takes place in April. Summer events at the fort include Canada Day Celebrations on July 1st and Brigade Days on the BC Day Long Weekend. In autumn there is James Douglas: A Multicultural Legacy and a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event in September and both the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival and Grave Tales Walking Tours in October. In November there is Louis Riel Day. The holiday season in December is celebrated with Humbug Holidays. There are special events and activities at other times of the year too. See below for details.

Events at Fort Langley National Historic Site
The Fort Langley National Historic Site is a popular attraction located at 23433 Mavis Avenue in the Village of Fort Langley.
The fort originally served as a Hudson Bay Company trading post in the 1800’s. The site has since turned into an interesting place for all ages to learn about the region’s history. There are reconstructed buildings along with artifacts, original buildings, displays and other things to see.

Events at the Fort
The Fort Langley National Historic Site offers extra activities from time to time. It’s a great place to celebrate annual holidays and other special days, such as May Day, Canada Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Most events are included with general admission tickets, which cost about $10 for adults and are free for youth under the age of 18. In some cases, however, general admission is free for everyone depending on the occasion.
Events that take place at the fort in a typical year are listed and described below. 2026 details for most are TBC. (Note: Exact details are subject to change.)

Family Day at the Fort (2026 Date TBC)
The Family Day festivities at the Fort Langley National Historic Site took place on Monday, February 17th last year. The event required general admission tickets. There were educational talks about beavers and Indigenous plants, chances to meet an owl, wildlife photography tips and more.

Spring Break (2026 Date TBC)
Spring Break activities last year ran from Monday, March 17th, until Sunday, March 30th. The historic site offered beaver-themed scavenger hunts, interpreter demonstrations, and lots more. General admission is typically required throughout Spring Break, which is free for youth ages 17 and under. Only adults have to pay to enter (and it’s a very reasonable price).

Vive Les Voyageurs (2026 Dates TBC)
Vive Les Voyageurs is a French-Canadian event at the fort. It ran on the weekend of April 12th to 13th last year. The event featured interactive presentations, coopering demonstrations and live storytelling sessions. There were also food vendors on site selling maple taffy. General admission tickets were required.

May Day (2026 Date TBC)
The Fort Langley National Historic Site hosts a special event on Victoria Day each year. In 2025 it took place on Monday, May 19th, between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm.
There are normally special activities at the fort to complement Fort Langley’s annual May Day Parade and other local celebrations. In 2025 there were food-themed celebrations. Guests got to learn about farming and gardening, baking in clay ovens, and how to make maple taffy.

National Indigenous Peoples Day (2026 Dates TBC)
In collaboration with the Stalew Arts & Cultural Society, the Fort Langley National Historic Site hosts a day of free programming in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day. In 2025 the event took place on June 14th. Admission to the historic site was free for everyone!
The one-day event typically includes cultural dancing and singing. Last year there was also a large market with more than 30 different Indigenous vendors selling crafts and other goods. The event is always a wonderful way to honour Indigenous roots just before National Indigenous People’s Day.

Canada Day (July 1, 2026)
Canada Day is a day full of special activities. In fact, admission to the fort is free!
Last year’s July 1st event ran from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm. There were demonstrations, scavenger hunts, games, gold panning activities and more throughout the day. There were also live performances by the Mayday Youth Choir, Wild Moccasin Dancers, Tri Cities Strummers and more. 2026 event details are to be confirmed.

Hawaiian Luau (2026 Dates TBC)
The Hawaiian Luau is a celebration of the Hawaiian Islands and their connection to the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Last year there were ticketed workshops at the fort on July 12th. Options included coconut leaf weaving and braided lei making. The main Hawaiian Luau event then ran on July 13th and featured demonstrations, storytelling sessions, language lessons, live entertainment and a Hawaiian-themed artisan market.

Brigade Days (2026 Dates TBC)
Brigade Days is an annual event at the Fort Langley National Historic Site. It takes place on the BC Day Long Weekend most years. Included with general admission to the fort, activities typically include demonstrations, storytelling, live music, hands-on activities and more to explore.

Douglas Day (2026 Dates TBC)
James Douglas Day is on November 19th each year. Celebrations are usually close to that date. However, in 2025, Douglas Day at the fort happened on Sunday, September 21st. 2026 details are to TBC.
In recent years the celebrations have been about James Douglas’ multicultural legacy. The event normally features food and performances representing different cultures.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (2026 Date TBC)
A special event takes place at the fort a couple days before National Day for Truth and Reconciliation each year. There are normally special presentations, Indigenous videos, a Métis Nation BC exhibit, and more. Admission for everyone is free for the day.

Grave Tales (2026 Dates TBC)
Grave Tales is an outdoor walking tour offered at the fort during the Halloween season. A guide leads groups through the village while sharing scary stories about ghosts, mysteries and other topics. The tours are excellent and highly recommended (unless you don’t like walking or spooky tales).
There are normally two different versions of the tour, with one being for adults and the other being for children. Admission last year ranged from $25 to $45 per person, and tours ran on select dates between October 18th and 26th.

Louis Riel Day (2026 Date TBC)
The Fort Langley National Historic Site celebrates Louis Riel Day in November. The exact date for 2026 is to be confirmed. The event is usually included with general admission. In a previous year there were Métis artists and exhibits, along with LEGO displays and interactive things to do.

Bah! Humbug! A Holiday Adventure (2026 Dates TBC)
Humbug Holidays is the name of the Christmas-themed event at the fort. A couple years ago the event began on Monday, December 16th, and ran until Monday, December 30th. At the event there were daily activities including ornament crafting and chestnut roasting with interpreters. The place was also decorated for the holiday season.
