Granville is a world-famous district in Vancouver. It’s one of Canada’s most popular tourist destinations, and it’ll be especially popular this summer!

Granville Island Watch Party in 2026

The FIFA World Cup is in Vancouver between June 11th and July 19th in 2026. Seven live matches take place at BC Place Stadium. Free public live-streamed viewings of all FIFA games also take place at various venues around the Lower Mainland, including at Granville Island.

Granville Island’s Watch Party runs from the start until the finish of the international soccer tournament. It’s one of the city’s largest free soccer fan events. A giant 24-foot outdoor screen broadcasts 94 matches with space for roughly 1,000 spectators in the heart of Vancouver’s main arts and cultural district. There is the Watch Party, which runs from June 11th until the 19th, but also special Kick-Off Celebrations (on June 11th and 12th) and Canada Day festivities (on July 1st). Granville Island Watch Party

The Granville Island Watch Party combines live soccer broadcasts with DJs, food trucks, craft beer, family play zones and cultural programming. The event site only operates on match days. Gates open one hour before matches from June 11th to July 3rd, two hours before matches from July 4th to 11th, and three hours before matches from July 14th to 19th. The venue is closed on July 8th, 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th.

 

Kick-Off Celebrations

Opening festivities happen on June 11th and 12th. They celebrate the tournament’s first matches hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.

On Thursday, June 11th, gates open at 11:00 am with all-day activities, live DJs, roving performers, face painting and family games. Matches on that day include Mexico vs South Africa from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and South Korea vs Czechia from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

On Friday, June 12th, the festivities start at 11:00 am with additional entertainment and community programming. Featured broadcasts include Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and the US vs Paraguay from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Hosts and performers throughout the opening celebrations include local DJs, entertainers from The Improv Centre, media personality and actress Zara Durrani, and a Squamish Nation representative.

Canada Day at Granville Island

Canada Day on Granville Island is one of the site’s biggest annual celebrations. In 2026, festivities take place on Wednesday, July 1st, alongside World Cup match broadcasts and special programming around False Creek.

The day begins at 8:00 am when the Watch Party gates open for morning matches. At 8:30 am, False Creek Ferries presents its annual Canada Day water ballet which can be seen from around the waterfront and ferry docks.

A formal Canada Day ceremony begins at noon inside the Watch Party venue featuring welcome speeches, the national anthem performed by local musician Shawn Bullshields, and a giant cake-cutting celebration. Additional programming across the island includes live music, artisan demonstrations, merchant activities and free performances.

Other Events on Granville Island

Lots of other events and festivals happen on Granville Island at other times of the year too. Just a few examples include a children’s festival, jazz festival, theatre festival, Latin American Heritage Month, and holiday decorations during the Christmas season. Vancouver Int’l Children’s Festival

The Vancouver International Children’s Festival brings music, theatre, storytelling and hands-on activities for young audiences to Granville Island. The event is one of Canada’s longest-running children’s arts festivals and attracts families from across the region.

 

Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Granville Island is one of the main hubs for the Vancouver International Jazz Festival which is one of the largest jazz festivals in North America. The festival fills the island with free outdoor performances, ticketed concerts and live music at multiple venues each summer. The Jazz festival also takes place in other neighbourhoods around town too, but Granville Island is one of its primary venues, especially around the Canada Day Long Weekend.

Vancouver Fringe Festival

The Vancouver Fringe Festival is a major performing arts festival featuring independent theatre, comedy, dance and experimental events at multiple venues all over Granville Island. The festival is known for its open-access format and lively late-summer atmosphere. In 2026 it runs from September 10th to 20th.

Latin American Heritage Month

Granville Island hosts cultural programming during Latin American Heritage Month in the fall. Activities include music, dance, food events, artisan markets and community celebrations highlighting Latin American cultures and traditions. The series of events ends with the Day of the Dead Market.

Latin American Heritage Month events take place at a number of venues, including on Granville Island, between mid-October and November 2nd.
