The Improv Centre on Granville Island

The Improv Centre is a theatre at Vancouver’s Granville Island. It’s where you’ll find live improv, theatresports-style shows and stand-up comedy.

What’s Showing at the Improv Centre at Granville Island?

There are regular shows on most days of the week. Monday is the only day when there’s never any shows. There are sometimes shows on Tuesdays and Sundays, but sometimes not. There’s comedy to enjoy basically every Wednesday to Saturday night year-round. As of September 2026, regular shows include Theatresports, Blockbuster, TriviaProv, True Story, and more.

There are also special shows at the Improv Centre from time to time. They include seasonal productions, like romance-themed ones around Valentine’s Day, or Christmas-themed productions in December.

On October 31st in 2026 there’s Ha-Ha Halloween, where audience members are encouraged to dress up in costume for the show (with prizes awarded to the best ones). Earlier in the month on October 4th there’s a special guest show performed by East Asian improv group Fistful of Kicks, entitled Fistful of Crime.

The venue’s address is 1502 Duranleau Street. It’s near the entrance to Granville Island under the Granville Street Bridge.

Regular Comedy Shows at the Improv Centre

As of September 2026, regular shows at Granville Island’s Improv Centre include Theatresports, Blockbuster, True Story and TriviaProv. Below are details about each of them.

Theatresports at the Improv Centre

Theatresports is the name of the venue’s traditional style of show. It’s what the Improv Centre has become famous for.

During this show two teams of actors do short, improvised skits and compete against one another for points. It’s kind of like the TV program Whose Line Is It Anyway. The “contestants” have to act out silly, quirky and unusual scenes. They have to think fast on their feet and make things up as they go.

With the Theatresports shows, sometimes the actors use props, sometimes they have to sing, and frequently there is audience participation. Even the sound and lighting person has to act and react quickly to what’s happening on stage.

The Theatresports shows happen on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 and 9:00 pm. Tickets start at about $31.50 each.

TriviaProv

This show involves the audience each week. Everyone is encouraged to use their mobile device to compete in a trivia contest. Answers from the trivia then inspire funny moments on stage.

TriviaProv shows happen on select Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 pm. Tickets start at about $20 per person.

Blockbuster

Blockbuster is a show based on films. Scenes from popular movies are recreated on stage with hilarious twists.

The show runs on select Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7:00 pm. Tickets cost as low as $20 each.

True Story

True Story shows run on select Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm. The first half of the show features short improv scenes based on real stories shared by audience members. The cast then share some of their own stories in the second half of the show.

Tuesday tickets are sold on a sliding scale, which means attendees can select whether they want to pay $15, $20 or $25 (based on how much spending money they have and how much they’d like to support the Improv Centre).
