Grouse Mountain hosts New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31st most years. There are fireworks and other activities at the North Vancouver ski hill.
In addition to the fireworks, there’s the Light Walk and special menus at both The Observatory restaurant and Altitudes Bistro.
New Year’s Eve Fireworks at Grouse Mountain
On December 31st, Grouse Mountain celebrates New Year’s Eve with fireworks that usually blast off at 7:00 pm. This is great because the City of Vancouver’s NYE Fireworks at False Creek have, for the past four years, been cancelled.
(Note: The fireworks at Grouse Mountain in 2023 were going to be at 9:00 pm, but then that got changed to a couple of hours earlier. This was a good idea because it allowed more time for people to get down the hill afterwards. The year before, the lineup to get on the gondola was over two ours long after the fireworks ended.)
There’s also a fancy dinner party for adults on Grouse Mountain. It takes place at The Observatory restaurant, which is a popular place to be on New Year’s Eve. Last year. the event featured a multi-course menu with seatings at 5:00 pm and 9:15 pm.
The dinner at the Observatory includes wine pairings and costs $195 per person. It also comes with complimentary champagne for a midnight toast and admission to Grouse Mountain. Meanwhile, the Altitudes Bistro offers various specials as well. There’s complimentary popcorn, a special New Year’s Eve cocktail and discounts on alcoholic beverages.
The resort’s regular skiing and snowboarding activities on December 31st, 2023, ran from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm. On that day, the Light Walk was open from dusk until 11:00 pm. The main New Year’s Eve attraction, however, is the fireworks which blast off at 7:00 pm. Admission to the show is free for people with general mountain admission tickets, ski lift tickets, and annual passes.
To learn more about the event on December 31st, see the Grouse Mountain website.
One of the few other places that usually offers fireworks on New Year’s is Cypress Mountain. Unfortunately, Cypress Mountain cancelled its pyrotechnics display in 2023.
