Fridays on the Front

New Westminster‘s Fridays on Front is an annual series of summer night market events with shopping, food, drinks, music and fun themed activities.

Fridays on Front Artisan Night Market in New Westminster

Fridays on Front takes place in July and August each year. The event is part night market, part block party, and free to enjoy.

Each night has a different theme. One of those themes in the past was Car Free Day. The normal New Westminster Car Free Day event didn’t take place that year. The Fridays on Front version was not a total replacement but it had some of the elements of a typical Car Free Day. As of the time of writing, the themes for 2026 had not yet been announced.

OTHER NIGHT MARKETS

Another night market that runs on Fridays in the summer is the Shipyards Night Market. It’s a wonderful event at Shipbuilders’ Square in North Vancouver. In 2026 the market starts up on May 15th and runs to September 11th. Each Friday between those dates there are vendors, live music, a beer garden and more.

Yet another great market is the White Rock Night Market. In 2026 it happens on May 1st, June 5th, July 17th, August 7th and September 4th.

The New Westminster Farmers Market is also a great market. It’s not a night market, but it does take place in New Westminster. In 2026 it starts on March 26th and runs until October 29th.

Location and Dates

Fridays on Front takes place next to Westminster Pier Park on the 600 block of Front Street Mews. The event takes over the full block with vendor stalls, food trucks, a music stage and more.

In 2026, there are six Fridays on Front events. They take place July 10th, 17th and 24th, as well as August 7th, 14th and 21st.

What to Expect at Fridays on Front

The different Fridays on Front events have the same overall structure, but they also have unique twists each week.

In terms of what stays the same, you can always expect to see local artisan vendors, food trucks, musicians and/or DJs, and some fun activities.

What changes every Friday is the exact lineup of food, music and fun. There are typically five food trucks each week and they are completely different each time. The music relates to the theme of the week, as do the activities or contests on-hand.

For example, the opening night last year was the Deep Roots: Indigenous Night. Performing that week were Shawn Bullshields, Justin Abit, James Groening and John Spence. The food trucks on-site were Taste of Malaysia, Reel Mac and Cheese, Kona Ice, The Taco Tigre and Dos Amigos.

Specific details about each event are posted closer to the date on the Fridays on Front Instagram page. Each week brings a different flavour to New West.
