The Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival is a family-friendly event featuring market vendors, live entertainment, fireworks and more in New Westminster.
The fireworks festival takes place on August 24th in 2024. It’s put on by the same organization that hosts the Hyack Festival on the last Saturday in May (which is also a fabulous event).

Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival in New Westminster
Most years there are fireworks in New Westminster on Canada Day. In 2022 the city had Canada Day celebrations, but, for various reasons, without the usual fireworks. Instead, the organizers of the annual July 1st fireworks show postponed their pyrotechnic festivities until the end of the summer.
Because of the above cancellation in July a couple of years ago, the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival is a relatively new event in New Westminster. It’s an afternoon and evening of family-friendly activities towards the end of summer.
At the end-of-August event there’s a market with local vendors, a beverage garden, and a stage with live music and entertainment. There is also a spectacular fireworks display to close the night. And guess what! The festival is completely free to attend!
When and Where
In 2024 the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival runs from 3:00 until 10:30 pm on Saturday, August 24th.
All festivities happen outdoors at Westminster Quay along Quayside Drive. The venue is close to the Fraser River Discovery Centre, which is an especially fun place for children that’s worth a visit.

Schedule of Activities
In 2024 the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival kicks off with a market that runs from 3:00 until 10:00 pm. There were over 30 vendors last year and there will probably be around the same again this year. At the market there is a wide range of products for sale including everything from candles and crafts to baked goods and chocolates.
The live entertainment portion of the event runs from 5:00 until 10:30 pm on the outdoor stage. The beer garden happens during those same hours too. Multiple singers and musicians perform during this time.
The full entertainment schedule for 2023 is listed below. 2024 will likely be similar (although the event this year starts at 3:00 pm, so later in the day).

The Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival concludes with a fireworks display just after 9:00 pm. The fireworks run for about 10 to 15 minutes. Last year the festival wrapped up at 9:30 pm. In 2024 the event runs until later, likely until around 10:30 pm.
