The Cloverdale Christmas Tree Festival at the Museum of Surrey features a free one-day event with Santa followed by about four weeks of decorations.
In 2024 the festival runs from November 23rd until December 21st. On the first day, which is a Saturday, there are free, family-friendly activities. Santa is there too. For the rest of the holiday season the museum is full of beautiful trees that are decorated by local businesses and community organizations.

The Cloverdale Christmas Tree Festival in 2024
The Cloverdale Christmas Tree Festival takes place every year at the Museum of Surrey. It’s a great museum and admission is free. During the Christmas holiday season the museum gets decorated with ornaments, special displays and over thirty Christmas trees.
On the first day of the festival, so on Saturday, November 23rd in 2024, there is a kick-off event. It usually happens in the afternoon. Last year it ran from 1:00 until 4:00 pm. At the kick-off event there is live entertainment, crafts and other family-friendly activities. Santa Claus is also there for photo opportunities and to listen to kids’ wish list requests.
The decorations stay up for the rest of the festival. That includes three or so dozen Christmas trees. Local businesses and community organizations decorate the trees and visitors to the museum can vote for their favourites. Last year everyone who voted was entered in a draw to win a $100 Visa gift card. This year will likely be similar, although exact details are to be confirmed.
The Cloverdale Christmas Tree Festival has a few purposes. A couple are to make the museum look festive and help locals celebrate the season. In addition to being fun and pretty, however, the festival is also a fundraising event. Visitors to the museum are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food product or a new toy. Items collected benefit a local charity. Last year it was the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper which helps families in need during the holiday season.
