Along with soccer matches, there are family-friendly movie nights on select dates. The neighbourhood also has nearby cafés and restaurants, all of which makes a summer atmosphere filled with community spirit.

With the FIFA World Cup taking place partly in Vancouver in 2026, the excitement at UBC is expected to be even bigger this year. Visitors are encouraged to wear their favourite team jerseys, bring lawn or camping chairs, and enjoy the outdoor screenings with friends and family.

When and Where is Soccer in the Square

In 2026 Soccer in the Square runs from June 11th to July 19th, so from the first day of FIFA until the tournament’s final day. The viewings and other activities take place at Norman Mackenzie Square in Wesbrook Village at UBC. Located at 3378 Wesbrook Mall, the square is close to shops, cafes, bakeries and restaurants. It makes it easy to grab snacks, drinks or meals before and during the games. There will likely also be food trucks on site.

The event is free to attend, so visitors can enjoy live soccer broadcasts, family movies and the festive atmosphere at no cost.

There is a bus stop directly beside the square on Wesbrook Mall. There is also plenty of bike parking nearby and a free parkade with the first two hours complimentary.

Between soccer broadcasts, the venue also hosts family movie screenings, which adds extra entertainment throughout the event series.

The atmosphere at Soccer in the Square is casual and family-friendly with some seating available onsite. Audiences are encouraged to bring camping chairs or blankets for extra comfort. Families often arrive early to explore the area, grab food nearby, and enjoy the community spirit before kickoff.

SUMMER SOUNDS AT UBC

Soccer in the Square is hosted by UBC Properties Trust which also puts on other events at the University of British Columbia. Summer Sounds at UBC, for example, is a series of free live music events which run from the beginning of May until the end of September. They take place in Wesbrook Village, at Norman MacKenzie Square, but also at 6111 University Boulevard, not far from the Memorial Gym.

Summer Sounds at UBC happens at Wesbrook Village on Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 until 3:00 pm (except not between June 12th and July 18th because that’s when Soccer in the Square takes place in 2026). Summer Sounds at UBC also takes place at the same times at the University Boulevard location on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday (plus Sundays between June 14th and July 19th in 2026).
