Granville Street Block Party in Vancouver
The Granville Street Block Party debuted in downtown Vancouver two years ago. The event turns two blocks of Granville Street into a pedestrian-only zone. They’ll do it again on August 23rd and 24th in 2025.
The block party is free and includes market vendors, fun activities and live entertainment. There are also food and drinks on hand. One of the event’s sponsors is the Red Truck Beer Company.
Last August was the event’s second year, although there have been similar ones in the past. In 2022, for example, there was the Granville Promenade which was a series of events in August that shut down traffic on a nearby two-block stretch of Granville Street. Like the promenade, the block party is organized by the Downtown Vancouver BIA.
Where and When
The block party takes place on the 700 and 800 blocks of Granville Street (on either side of Robson Street). The event usually runs from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm on both weekend days in late August with an after-party at Donnellan’s Irish Pub. It’s free, family-friendly, and open to everyone.
No cars are allowed on those blocks during the festival’s run. Attendees can roam the streets and take in the entertainment as they please.
What to Expect
There is a lot that happens at the Granville Block Party. On top of the businesses that are already there, plenty of additional vendors are set up along the street. There are interactive activities to enjoy like arts and crafts workshops and painting displays.
Other fun stuff to check out are games set up by the BC Sports Hall of Fame and The Rec Room, a Kids Area featuring mini golf and street performances, and a behind the scenes tour of the Orpheum Theatre.
While the block party is meant for those of all ages it’s also a licensed event which means that alcohol can be consumed throughout. Expect there to be various food and drink options to choose from.
