In 2023 the market happened on the Saturday and Sunday of October 7th and 8th (which was on the Thanksgiving Long Weekend). It’s a terrific event, especially for people who like Halloween, artisan markets and shopping for cool stuff! The market is full of all kinds of amazing things!

Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween Market in Vancouver

The Nightmare Before Christmas Market is a popular annual event. Don’t get confused by its name. This is not a Christmas-themed market. The Nightmare Before Christmas Market is a Halloween event that runs over two days in October each year. It features dozens of vendors selling all sorts of unique products. There are also kid-friendly activities most years and Halloween costumes are encouraged.

The market took place for the first time in 2017. It was held at a cathedral in New Westminster. The event happened again in 2018 and 2019, before going on a two-year hiatus during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The market returned in October of 2022, but at a new location in a different city. It was back at its new location again in 2023!

In 2023 the Nightmare Before Christmas Market took place on the Saturday and Sunday of October 7th and 8th. Like the year before, the 2023 event was at the Croatian Cultural Centre. The venue is located at 3250 Commercial Drive in Vancouver. (NOTE: In 2024 the event will likely be at yet another new venue. Exact details as to where, however, are to be confirmed.)

Hours and Admission

The Nightmare Before Christmas Market ran on the weekend of October 7th and 8th in 2023. Saturday hours were from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Sunday hours were from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Tickets were available both online and at the door this past year. General admission for each day cost $4 in advance or $5 at the door. Weekend passes were also available online for $7 per person and they included access to the market on both the Saturday and Sunday. Tickets were required for everyone ages 14 and above. Children ages 13 and under could get in for free.

The event happened at the Croatian Cultural Centre at 3250 Commercial Drive. The venue is less than a 10-minute walk from John Hendry Park and Trout Lake.

What to Expect

The Nightmare Before Christmas Market is a family-friendly event. Expect to see people of all ages walking around in their favourite costumes, which is always a fun sight to see.

There were more than 75 vendors at the 2023 event selling a wide range of unique and wonderful things! Unlike other artisan markets, this Halloween-themed market celebrates everything weird and wacky. It’s an opportunity to browse and buy unique products a few weeks before Halloween and a couple of months before Christmas.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Market also features activities for kids most years. For example, there were face painting and balloon creation stations at previous events. There are usually also cosplayers roaming around the venue dressed as famous characters. Food trucks are on site as well.
