Vancouver TED Conference 2017

Tickets to the live event at the Vancouver Convention Centre are incredibly expensive and have long been sold out, but there are still opportunities to enjoy the show.

Want to take in the 2017 World TED Conference in Vancouver but didn’t get invited to the live show and/or couldn’t afford several thousand dollars for tickets? Then check out the following ways you can experience the event for free or at very little cost.

 

TED Live Streaming

Live Streaming of the 2017 TED Conference takes place at libraries across the Lower Mainland including in North Vancouver at various times and locations.

Free TED Viewings in Vancouver

Watch live streaming of the TED Conference for free at the following Vancouver Public Library locations from 8:30 am to 7 pm:

Tuesday, April 25, from 8:30 am to 7 pm

  • Central Branch – in the Alice MacKay Room (Lower Level) at the Vancouver Public Library at 350 West Georgia.
  • Kitsilano Branch – at 2425 MacDonald Street.

Wednesday, April 26, from 8:30 am to 7 pm

TED Cinema

There will be three official public screenings of the 2017 TED Conference at local cinemas on April 24th, 25th and 30th. See below for the event details, and even further below for the screening locations.

 

April 24th TED Cinema Event

The Opening Event screening takes place on Monday, April 24, at 8 pm and features 120 minutes of the start to the TED 2017 event. Speakers include Huang Yi (a dancer and choreographer), Joshua Roman (a cellist), Anab Jain (a futurist and designer), Laura Galante (a cyberspace analyst), Titus Kaphar (an artist), Garry Kasparov (a chess grandmaster and analyst), Tim Ferriss (a productivity guru and author), OK Go (a band) and Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks (a religious leader).

April 25th TED Cinema Event

The TED Prize Event is a 120 minute showing of the TED Conference that features a number of speakers and the awarding of a $1 million prize for a world-changing idea. Speakers during the program include Serena Williams (a professional tennis player), Gayle King (a journalist), Atul Gawande (a surgeon & journalist), Anna Rosling Rönnlund (co-founder of Gapminder), Jon Boogz and Lil Buck (movement artists), Raj Panjabi (a physician) and a surprise world famous guest speaker.

Tickets cost $23 and it takes place on Tuesday, April 25th, at 8 pm. See below for cinema locations.

 

April 30th TED Cinema Event

The TED Highlights Exclusive event is a 120-minute showing of some of the most remarkable talks and highlights of the full TED 2017 conference. The cinema event takes place on Sunday, April 30th, at 4 pm (so after the TED Conference has finished).

TED Cinema Locations

The three official public screenings of the 2017 TED Conference take place at the following five Lower Mainland theatres:

  • Cineplex Odeon Park & Tilford – at 200 333 Brooksbank Avenue in North Vancouver.
  • SilverCity Metropolis Cinemas – at 4700 Kingsway Avenue in Burnaby.
  • SilverCity Riverport Cinemas – at 14211 Entertainment Way in Richmond.
  • SilverCity Coquitlam and VIP Cinemas – at 170 Schoolhouse Street in Coquitlam.

Other TED and TEDx Opportunities

In addition to the annual world TED Conference, there are also smaller and more affordable local TEDx conferences at different times of the year in Vancouver. TEDx events are similar to the international TED Conference, but smaller, far less expensive and lasting a single day instead of several.
