Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company puts on plays and runs the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, Granville Island Stage and Newmont Stage.

The Arts Club is a great theatre company. Other exceptional theatre organizations are Bard on the Beach and Theatre Under the Stars. Bard on the Beach is a world-famous company that puts on Shakespearean productions between May and September. Theatre Under the Stars, meanwhile, puts on fabulous outdoor musicals at Stanley Park in July and August. If you get a chance to see a play with Bard on the Beach or Theatre Under the Stars, we highly recommend you do! They are absolutely terrific!

The Arts Club

Some of the best live theatre in Vancouver is put on by the Arts Club which is a non-profit organization. It’s also Canada’s largest theatre company west of Ontario. Over 250,000 people see its shows annually!

If you like high-quality live theatre, then shows by the Arts Club are great ones to see!

Arts Club Shows in 2022/23

The Arts Club announced their 2022/23 season schedule in early April, 2022. After a couple years of greatly reduced show numbers, this upcoming season is set to be a return to a more pre-pandemic number of productions.

There are 13 shows scheduled to take place from September, 2022 to August, 2023. They are split into series held at each of the three different venues used by the Arts Club. Single-show tickets go on sale in the summer. As of April, however, you can subscribe to series of shows at each theatre. Below is the list of productions for this season.

 

Stanley Series

These five shows are held at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage. A subscription to all the shows costs between $146 and $444.

  • Forgiveness – January 12th to February 12th, 2023.
  • Sense and Sensibility – March 2nd to April 2nd, 2023.
  • The Legend of Georgia McBride – April 20th to May 21st, 2023.
  • Beautiful: The Carole King Musical – June 8th to August 6th, 2023.

 

Granville Island Series

These four shows take place at the Granville Island Stage. A subscription to all of them costs between $108 and $204.

  • The Cull – January 26th to February 26th, 2023.
  • Rubaboo – March 30th to April 30th, 2023.
  • Million Dollar Quartet – June 22nd to August 6th, 2023.

 

Newmont Series

These three shows are held at the Newmont Stage, A subscription for all three costs between $75 and $90.

  • Me Love Bingo!: Best in Show – December 1st, 2022, to January 1st, 2023.
  • Teenage Dick – February 9th to March 5th, 2023.

Arts Club Theatre Venues

Three different theatre venues belong to the Arts Club Theatre Company. They are the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, Granville Island Stage and Newmont Stage. Performances take place at all three locations. Each venue is also available for private groups to rent.

 

Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage

The Stanley is a 650-seat theatre located at 2750 Granville Street, by 12th Avenue, so just a few blocks south of West Broadway. It’s the largest of the Arts Club’s three venues and its building has been hosting both films and live shows since the early 1930s.

 

Newmont Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre

The Newmont Stage is a 250-seat Studio Theatre located at 162 West 1st Avenue, so not far from Vancouver’s Olympic Village. (Note: This venue used to be called the Goldcorp Stage.)

 

Granville Island Stage

The Granville Island Stage is in the heart of Granville Island not far from the Granville Island Public Market. Its address is 1585 Johnston Street and it’s a 440-seat theatre.

Tips and Advice

Below are some suggestions and extra information to help you make the most out of your show experience with the Arts Club.

TIP #1: Give yourself lots of time to get to the venues and find parking. The last thing you want is the stress of getting stuck in traffic and arriving late.

TIP #2: Parking at Granville Island after 6 o’clock is free.

TIP #3: After arriving early, kill some time by going for a walk or having a refreshment at a nearby coffee shop, bar or restaurant. Olympic Village and the False Creek waterfront are close to the Newmont Stage. Granville Island is also a great place to explore, and Granville Street around the Stanley Industrial Stage has a fair number of interesting shops.

TIP #4: The Stanley, Granville Island Stage and Newmont Stage are all located in parts of town with a good number of excellent bars and restaurants. Go early and enjoy dinner before the show.
