Beyond Van Gogh

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a touring art exhibition featuring the works of Vincent Van Gogh. It takes place in Surrey starting February 2023.

The company behind the attraction, Paquin Entertainment, is the same company behind the Beyond King Tut exhibition which was in Vancouver between November 2022 and January 2023. Paquin Entertainment has also brought other exhibitions to Vancouver in recent years including Imagine Picasso and Imagine Van Gogh. The company is also behind the Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. which is in Burnaby in the spring of 2023.

Although similar in subject matter and style of exhibition, Imagine Van Gogh and Beyond Van Gogh are unrelated. The former was created by a French company and the latter by Montreal’s Normal Studio. If you have been to Beyond King Tut, or Imagine Picasso or Imagine Van Gogh, and liked them, you’ll no doubt really enjoy Beyond Van Gogh too. Their shows are impressive!

The Beyond Van Gogh exhibition takes place at the Cloverdale Agriplex in Surrey from February 1st to March 5th in 2023.

For tickets and full details about the exhibition see the official Beyond Van Gogh website.

What to Expect

Beyond Van Gogh features a few separate areas to explore. First, everyone enters an educational room with displays full of text. It’s a place where you get to read and learn all about Vincent Van Gogh.

The next area is the main part of the immersive experience. It features continuous animations and projections. In the large room you’ll see tall digital displays showcasing numerous paintings in great detail. You’ll find yourself surrounded by the works of Vincent Van Gogh, with art to see on all four walls and all of the other structures around you, including on the floor. The animated sequence lasts for about 35 minutes or so and is on a continuous loop.

After you’ve admired the exhibition, the last area of Beyond Van Gogh offers a virtual reality experience called Beyond Van Gogh: A Life in Letters. It’s included with VIP admission, but costs extra for people paying for just general admission. The VR experience lasts for about 10 minutes and with it you feel like you’re inside some of Van Gogh’s paintings with the scenery all around you.

On your way out, there’s a gift shop with all sorts of merchandise, as well as a neat backdrop for souvenir photos.

Beyond Van Gogh Video

For a really good idea of what to expect at the Beyond Van Gogh exhibition in Cloverdale, check out the following video. It shows scenes of the event in 2023.

Who Was Van Gogh?

Vincent Van Gogh was an artist from the Post-Impressionist era in the 19th century. Some of his most famous works include “The Starry Night”, “Café Terrace at Night” and “Sunflowers”.

His paintings are easily recognizable to this day because of a few distinct traits. Van Gogh typically used vibrant colours with thick brush strokes. His pieces are mostly unrealistic and full of abstract shapes and forms. He was also known to distort objects in different ways. When combined together, all of these attributes made up a unique style that set his paintings apart from others during his time.
