Mission Ribfest in the Fraser Valley

The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival is a series of events in Metro Vancouver. Last year the series introduced Chilliwack Ribfest, which happens for the second time in 2024 on the last weekend of July. The newest event in the series is similar but at a different location and one week later. Mission Ribfest debuts on the first weekend of August this year.

The inaugural Mission Ribfest event takes place over four days. It features six rib vendors from different parts of the country, plus dozens of other food trucks serving tasty treats and meals. There’s also live entertainment to enjoy throughout the event. Admission to Mission Ribfest is by donation and tickets are available online.

Dates and Location

In 2024 Mission Ribfest takes place from August 2nd to August 5th. In other words, it runs from the Friday to the Monday of this year’s BC Day Long Weekend. Event hours are different on each of the four days. On the Friday, the festival runs from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. It opens at 11:00 am on the other three days and finishes at 9:00 pm on Saturday, 8:00 pm on Sunday and 7:00 pm on Monday.

The event takes place at Fraser River Heritage Park which is located at 7494 Mary Street in Mission. It’s about an hour’s drive from Vancouver in good traffic. The same park hosts a number of other events throughout the year, including the community’s Canada Day Celebrations, the Old Car Sunday Car Show, Twilight Concert Series, Mission Folk Music Festival and more.

What to Expect

As with other Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival events, expect to see people of all ages enjoying time outdoors at Mission Ribfest.

The most popular area will likely be where the ribbers are set up. There are large menus and displays above each vendor, as well as lines of excited people. Some of the vendors can get quite loud and they serve ribs in fun ways.

The six ribbers at Mission Ribfest in 2024 include Guerilla Q from Chilliwack, Grizzly BBQ from Victoria and Smoke Dem Bones from Penticton. There are also vendors from different provinces, including Prairie Smoke & Spice from Saskatchewan and both Boss Hogs and Gator BBQ from Ontario.

Mission Ribfest will look like other rib-themed events in the Lower Mainland. Expect to see lots of seating areas with tables. There’s also a beer garden where groups of adults will gather around and enjoy alcoholic beverages. The event includes all sorts of live music and an artisan market with local vendors selling various handmade products. As of early April, performers and artisan vendors at the inaugural event have yet to be announced.
