Cougar Creek’s A Very Creepy Xmas Event

Cougar Creek's A Very Creepy Xmas

Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors in Surrey is one of Metro Vancouver’s top Halloween attractions. In December it also used to host A Very Creepy Xmas.

Note: 2022 was the final year for A Very Creepy Xmas. Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors is still happening at Halloween, and will continue to do so. The Christmas attraction, however, is not.

In 2023 Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors runs between September 29th and November 4th. It’s an awesome Halloween attraction and highly recommended.

A Very Creepy Xmas at Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors

Cougar Creek’s House of Horrorsis a popular haunted house in Surrey right down the street from Strawberry Hills movie theatre. The Halloween attraction used to transform into a scary Christmas-themed attraction during the holiday season.

A Very Creepy Xmas was like a Halloween haunted house and a Christmas attraction combined into one fun and spooky event. Ghoulish and scary-themed Christmas attractions are popular in the United States. Cougar Creek’s A Very Creepy Xmas, however, was the first of its kind in Canada (at least to our knowledge).

in its final year, A Very Creepy Xmas featured two different haunted experiences full of animatronics and live actors. The haunts were full of hilariously ghoulish takes on the most merry of holiday seasons, as they combined the joys of Christmas with elements of horror.

Guests encountered creepy snowmen, evil elves and a wicked Santa Claus at this unique Christmas attraction. There was also a Christmas-themed escape room with clues to discover and puzzles to solve as you frantically tried to escape the Christmas party gone wrong. All experiences were recommended for folks ages 14 and up.

In 2022 A Very Creepy Xmas ran on December 16th, 17th and 18th. It was also going to happen on December 21st, 22nd and 23rd, but those dates were cancelled due to snow. Hours of operation on all six days were from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors’ address is 12530 72nd Avenue in Surrey.

Best Christmas Activities

Christmas Haunts in 2022

A Very Creepy Xmas featured two Christmas-themed haunted houses and a Christmas-themed escape room in 2022. The first haunted house was The Kaverns of Krampus and the second was Hotel Frozen Terror. Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors also had its own escape room called The Xmas Escape From Incineration.

Details about all three activities are below.

The Kaverns of Krampus

One of the main haunted attractions at Cougar Creek’s Creepy Xmas was The Kaverns of Krampus. Guests walked inside the home of Krampus, an evil-looking being from European folklore who is rumoured to have a serious distaste for those who are naughty. He has terrifying eyes and curled horns. Krampus punishes those who misbehave, so you better not be nasty. Instead be very, very nice!

Hotel Frozen Terror

The other main haunt was Hotel Frozen Terror. The set was a road-side motel, nicely decorated for the holiday season. However, there was a mysterious plot involved. Guests were able to book into the motel at the jolliest and busiest time of the year but they never seemed to check out. … Did they make it to the end?!

The Escape From Incineration

The Xmas Escape From Incineration was the escape room at Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors. As its name suggested, guests tried to get out of a “burning” building before it was too late! Everyone had 20 minutes to find clues and solve all the puzzles. And new for 2022, the escape room had an entire new track involving the neighbours and their Christmas party that went horribly wrong! It was silly, it was hilarious and it was lots of fun!

The escape room was for groups of two to six people. Of note, there were fog effects and strobe lights involved.

Ticket Prices

Admission to Cougar Creek’s Creepy Xmas was the same for all ages. Tickets were available online for set time slots staggered 30 minutes apart. (Note: Tickets were more expensive at the door so Cougar Creek recommended buying tickets online and well ahead of time.)

For folks wanting to check out the two main haunted attractions, there were various types of tickets to choose from. All included access to both haunts.

General admission for the event in 2022 cost about $30 each (plus ticketing fees). Groups of eight or more people received a discount of about $3 per person. There were also Xmas Speedpass tickets available for $50 each (plus ticketing fees) that guaranteed shorter waiting times than normal. Lastly, VIP Xmas Speedpass tickets allowed immediate entry into both haunts and cost about $80 per person (plus ticketing fees) and included a free photo and t-shirt.

Admission to the escape room was separate. Tickets for the escape room cost $15 per person (plus ticketing fees), but had to be purchased for at least two people. Additional participants cost $15 each and could be paid for on site. A maximum of six people were permitted inside.

A Very Creepy Xmas Video

To give you an idea of what the attraction looked like, check out the following video. It shows scenes from A Very Creepy Xmas in 2022.

We got a preview of the venue and did the filming before it started up for the season, so before there were any actors. When the attraction is in full operation there is also music, more sounds and special effects you won’t see in the video. What you’ll see in the video will give you an idea of what to expect, but the real thing is so much better (and scarier)!

If you like haunted houses, you would have loved A Very Creepy Xmas.
