Dead Fellows Haunted Brewhouse

Strange Fellows Brewing crafts unique and extraordinary beverages in East Vancouver. Along with selling all sorts of beers, wines and ciders, the brewery hosts a variety of events throughout the year. In the days leading up to Halloween, last year, for the first time ever, the venue transformed into a spooky haunted attraction called Dead Fellows Haunted Brewhouse.

The haunted house comes with an interesting backstory. A group of brewers died, supposedly, when the city’s East Bridge collapsed over 100 years ago. The tragic accident happened on the same grounds as where the brewery now stands, and the group of brewers have returned from the dead. They are on the hunt for bodies to mix into their new drinks! Pretty cool, huh!

Dead Fellows Haunted Brewhouse is an eerie, self-guided experience. It’s especially scary at night with frightening creatures and surprises. Taking place indoors at the brewery, the event features live actors, terrifying decorations and more. There’s also a toned down version of the event during the day on the last weekend in October for families with children.

Tips & Advice

The following tips and suggestions are good to know before heading to the haunted attraction at Strange Fellows Brewing.

TIP #1: Organizers encourage everyone to purchase their tickets online. That’s because there is a limited number of tickets available at the door. There aren’t any guarantees, though, and wait times may be long.

TIP #2: Dead Fellows Haunted Brewhouse is a no-contact event. None of the actors touch or grab you. However, it’s still a scary attraction with spooky scenes and flashing lights. If you have epilepsy, high blood pressure or a severe heart condition, opt to attend the family-friendly version during the day instead.

TIP #3: Costumes are encouraged. However, no masks or props are allowed during the haunted experience. No backpacks, hats or flashlights are permitted either.

TIP #4: Photos and videos are prohibited inside the haunted house. If you want to capture memories of the experience, feel free to take photos in the decorated tasting room or in the tent upon exiting.

About the Brewery

Strange Fellows Brewing takes pride in crafting “strange” beverages, but in a good way. The brewhouse doesn’t really make anything with human blood! The brewery specializes in sour and barrel-aged beers, but also experiments with other styles. The place has been making unique drinks at its East Vancouver location since late 2014.

The brewery has grown into a popular establishment to visit. There’s a tasting room open daily with several beers and wines on tap. The venue also offers casual food such as pizzas, Jamaican patties, pretzels and a few other pub-style items. The atmosphere is warm, social and inclusive. Folks can dine indoors or outside on the covered patio.
