Vancouver Places for a Walk, Jog or Cycle

Cycling in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge

Vancouver’s top trails for a walk or cycle include Coal Harbour, False Creek, Stanley Park, Steveston’s waterfront, and Jericho Beach to Spanish Banks. But that’s far from all!

Vancouver’s Best Places for Walking, Jogging and Cycling

Below we list some of our favourite pathways, places to both walk and jog, bike trails and hiking trails. Our list is far from complete, and we plan to add to it over time. For now though, it’s a start.

Top Pathways

Here, in our opinion, are some of the best places (in no particular order) to go for a walk, jog or leisurely bike ride in and around Metro Vancouver.  All the routes allow all three modes of transportation.

  1. Coal Harbour (along the waterfront in Vancouver)
  2. The dykes in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows including North Alouette Greenway and the area by Pitt Lake.
  3. False Creek Seawall (Vancouver)
  4. Fort Langley (the Fort to Fort trail along the river)
  5. Stanley Park Seawall (Vancouver)
  6. Steveston Village and along the West Dyke Trail (Richmond)
  7. Jericho Beach to Spanish Banks (Vancouver)
  8. Rocky Point Park (Port Moody)
  9. Kanaka Creek Regional Park (Maple Ridge)
  10. Mundy Park (Coquitlam)
  11. Tynehead Regional Park (Surrey)

Places for Walking and Jogging

Other top places for a walk or jog (but not cycling quite as much) include the following:

  1. Ambleside to Dundarave the seawall in West Vancouver. There is good cycling here too, especially if you head through the trails towards the Capilano River. From Ambleside to Dundarave though it’s better on foot.
  2. Barnet Marine Park a park that stretches along the waterfront for over a kilometre in Burnaby.
  3. Lynn Canyon Park a North Vancouver park with hiking trails and a world-famous suspension bridge (that is free to cross).
  4. Rice Lake a small lake in North Vancouver with a hiking trail around it. There are good cycling and mountain biking trails in the immediate area too, just not around the lake itself.
  5. Pacific Spirit Regional Park a large forested area in the UBC Endowment Lands at the University of British Columbia. It’s a great place for hiking, walking, jogging and even mountain biking (but not to so much “cycling”, although you can do that on the roads).

Vancouver Bike Trails

Other best places for leisurely bike rides (i.e., flat paved areas with only slight hills) include the following:

  1. Barnston Island – between Surrey and Pitt Meadows.
  2. False Creek Seawall – there is a cycling path all around False Creek, from near Kitsilano Beach to Science World and all the way to English Bay.
  3. Fort Langley – the Fort to Fort Trail is a great path for both walking and cycling.
  4. Seymour Demonstration Forest – in North Vancouver, close to Rice Lake.
  5. Stanley Park Seawall – the paved path goes all the way around Stanley Park. There is a lane for bicycles and another for pedestrians.
  6. Tynehead Regional Park – over 250 hectares of forested trails and meadows.
