Vancouver’s Greek Day on Broadway

Greek Day on Broadway

Greek Day on Broadway is a Vancouver street party in late June. It features Greek culture, food, music, entertainment and market vendors in Kitsilano.

In 2023 the Greek Day on Broadway festival happened on June 25th. That was the same weekend as a number of other free Lower Metro Vancouver events that included the Shipyards Night Market and Lynn Valley Day on the North Shore. There was also the Vancouver Jazz Festival, Mission Community Block Party and the Philippines Pinoy Festival.

Note: Another great Greek-themed event this time of year is Greek Summerfest which in 2023 took place on July 6th to 9th and from July 13th to 16th. Greek Summerfest happens outside the St. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church in Vancouver. It’s a fabulous event with live music and delicious food!

Vancouver Greek Street Party in 2023

Greek Day on Broadway is one of Vancouver’s premier pedestrian-only events. It attracts tens of thousands of people most years and is apparently Vancouver’s longest-running festival. Greeks and non-Greeks throng the street indulging in famous Greek food (e.g. souvlaki) and watching traditional Greek dancing such as Zorba. There are also a number of Greek pastry stores on Broadway that will tempt you to pop in and buy an authentic Greek pastry such as baklava.

Where and When

Greek Day on Broadway was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It returned on June 26th in 2022. In 2023 Greek Day on Broadway took place on Sunday, June 25th. This very popular event will no doubt return in 2024, although the exact date is to be confirmed.

The street party is held on West Broadway in Kitsilano along the five blocks between MacDonald and Blenheim, so from the 2800 block of Broadway to the 3200 block. It typically runs from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm.

Greek Day Activities

Activities at the Greek Day on Broadway event usually include a Kids’ Zone, cooking demonstrations, and live entertainment including performances by various community Greek dance groups, many of whom also often perform at the Greek Food Festival in Surrey earlier in June.

If you like Greek food and Greek music (who doesn’t!), or just want to have fun while learning more about Greek culture, this is a great event to check out.

To give you a good idea of what Greek Day on Broadway looks like, check out the video below. It shows what the event looked like in 2022.

As you’ll see in the video, West Broadway is lined with vendor stalls and the street is full of people. The main stage is at the far west end of the venue, but there is music in other places too. There is also lots of delicious food for sale from various vendors.
