FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE

The FIFA Fan Festival is the official World Cup event for soccer fans in Vancouver. The festivities take place on the PNE grounds at Hastings Park, including at the new Freedom Mobile Arch. There are multiple screens set up in the area with live broadcasts of the games. Expect live music by Canadian and global artists at the venue, as well as food trucks, barbeque vendors and bars. There are also soccer-themed games such as Skee-ball, Robokeeper, Subsoccer, and more.

Admission to the site is free, but paid tickets are also available for Premium Experiences that come with reserved seating and the best views of the Amphitheatre stage.

To learn more, see our article about the FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE.

Soccer in the Square at UBC

UBC Soccer in the Square is another football-themed event to check out in Vancouver. Held at Norman Mackenzie Square in Westbrook Village, all festivities here are free to attend.

At Soccer in the Square there are live broadcasts of most matches throughout the tournament, plus family-friendly movie screenings on select dates. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Food and drinks are available to purchase from the many nearby restaurants as well.

Surrey Soccer Fan Zones

There are three different Surrey Soccer Fan Zones to check out for free during the FIFA World Cup. Each venue operates on different dates, so be sure to check the schedule closely before going.

On most days of the tournament, there are activities at Surrey Civic Plaza. In July there are also things to do indoors at the Cloverdale Agriplex. Plus, on the final four days of World Cup action, folks can gather at South Surrey Athletic Park to watch the semi-final matches, the bronze game, and the World Cup final.

In addition to match broadcasts on large screens, most days include live performances, community booths and soccer-themed activities for all ages.

Richmond Celebrates Soccer

Richmond Celebrates Soccer is a series of free events in Richmond during the FIFA World Cup. Unlike a couple of the other cities mentioned in this article, the events in Richmond don’t take place each day. Instead, they happen on select dates and at different locations.

Festivities begin on June 12th with the World Soccer Day Kick-Off Event at the Richmond Oval. It’s a full-day affair with two match broadcasts, foosball and soccer tournaments, live music, an obstacle course and more.

Other events happen on select dates at Hamilton Community Park, Garden City Community Park, Burkeville Neighbourhood Park, Hugh Boyd Community Park, Steveston Community Park, and other public spaces.

The final match of the tournament is celebrated at Aberdeen Neighbourhood Park on July 19th. The watch party also includes art activities, a selfie station, demonstrations, live entertainment and more things to see and do.

TIP: While you’re in Richmond, be sure to visit the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. It’s a very interesting National Historic Site in beautiful Steveston Village.

Football/Soccer Celebrations on the North Shore

North Vancouver celebrates the FIFA World Cup coming to Vancouver at both the Shipyards and Capilano Suspension Bridge.

The Shipyards is Canada Soccer’s official site for this year’s tournament. All World Cup games are to be broadcasted on a big screen. Fans can attend for free. They can also enjoy live performances, retail pop-ups and more. As of mid-May, additional details about the Shipyards events are to be confirmed.

Also on the North Shore, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park transforms into Canyon Kick-Off between June 6th and July 19th. Country flags hang from the bridge with a large soccer ball to admire too. Guests can take advantage of playful photo opportunities, foosball games, cornhole, and other fun activations around the park.

(TIP: An annual pass to Capilano Suspension Bridge costs the same for residents of BC as a single day pass (but only for residents of BC.)
