North Vancouver’s Highlands United Productions Theatre

Lights Up Music Revue at Highlands United

Highlands United Productions is a North Vancouver theatre group that puts on a show every couple of years. In 2023 it was Lights Up! which is a musical revue.

Lights Up! took place on March 1st to 4th in 2023. We saw the show on opening night and it was awesome!

In 2025 Highlands United Productions present “10 Million Stars – and the Stories They Could Tell.” It runs from March 5th to 8th at Highlands United Church.

This year’s musical revue is a collection of many of the production company’s favourite songs from the vast world of musical theatre. The cast of 45 actors is busy preparing over twenty musical selections and telling their stories in their own unique setting. Some of the numbers included in this year’s production are from Hair, South Pacific, The Greatest Showman and other musicals.

The 2025 production is directed by Doug and Gillian Irwin and choreographed by Carolyn Bergstrand. The musical direction is by Geordie Roberts. Tickets will be available at Brown Paper Tickets as of February 2nd, 2025.

Lights Up! at Highlands United in 2023

In 2023 Lights Up! featured an evening of music from a variety of Broadway and other famous musical shows. It wasn’t a theatrical play or musical that year, like the performances have typically been in the past. It was more of a concert showcasing the music of Broadway and the talents of this local group of singers and other artists. The show’s cast included over 40 performers. The production in 2025 will be similar.

Although the production in 2023 wasn’t a musical with a single story, it did have lots of dancing. The choreography was first rate! The show featured about two dozen numbers where the performers danced and sang in costume just like they would in a real Broadway play.

Although Highlands United Productions is a North Shore-based theatre group, its actors and singers are from across the Lower Mainland. Also, despite being produced by a “church-affiliated” organization, the quality of the performances is as high as those of any of Vancouver’s professional theatre companies. We’ve attended a number of their shows and have always been both thoroughly entertained and impressed! Their last production was no exception.

Where, When and How Much in 2023

Lights Up! the musical revue took place in North Vancouver’s Edgemont Village. The performance ran from Wednesday, March 1st, to Sunday, March 4th. Taking place at Highlands United Church, the venue’s address is 3255 Edgemont Boulevard (which is just a short drive from both Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver).

All shows started at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost $30.00, or $33.79 including online fees.

What to Expect at the Concert

Shows with Highlands United Productions take place at Highlands United Church. The theatre is the sanctuary (which has wonderfully comfortable, modern, cushioned chairs). It’s an attractive facility and great for both church services and live performances. The church was the venue for Lights Up!. The show wasn’t a “church” event and it didn’t have religious components (other than what one might expect in the lyrics of a few Broadway musicals).

Lights Up! was a compilation of songs from many Broadway musicals showcasing songs that everyone would have been familiar with, and a few new ones! Featuring a cast of forty entertainers, Highlands United Productions was thrilled to have many cast members from its past productions featured in this show.

The 2-hour production had two acts with a 15-minute intermission in the middle.

Music at the 2023 Concert

Some of the songs at the show included the following numbers from popular Broadway shows and other famous musicals.

  • Oh What a Beautiful Morning (Oklahoma)
  • You’re the Top (Anything Goes)
  • Ya Got Trouble (The Music Man)
  • For Good (Wicked)
  • We Beseech Thee (Godspell)
  • Seize the Day (Newsies)
  • Book Report (You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown)
  • A Million Dreams (The Greatest Showman)
  • Do You Hear the People sing (Les Misérables)
  • You Can’t Stop the Beat (Hairspray)

Tips and Tricks

Below are some tips and suggestions to help you get the most out of your experience at the Highlands United show.

TIP #1: There is parking on the streets nearby and underground at the Grosvenor Building across the street from Highlands Church and accessed off Ayr Street.

TIP #2: When booking the show on Brown Paper Tickets be sure to select the correct dates and number of attendees. This is important as tickets are not refundable.

TIP #3: Plan to arrive early to give yourself time to find parking and enjoy a glass of wine before the show (and then another one during the intermission).

TIP #4: If you like musicals, then also be sure to see a show with Theatre Under the Stars at Stanley Park in the Summer. Another show you might like to see in the spring of 2025 is Shen Yun. It takes place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on April 9th to 13th.
