Port Moody Terry Fox Run

Port Moody hosts their annual Terry Fox Run on a Sunday in mid-September at Rocky Point Park as a fundraiser to support cancer research.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Terry Fox Run was a virtual event in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The event happened in a virtual format once again in 2023. Participants could walk or run anywhere on September 17th, 2023.

Communities across Canada host Terry Fox Runs on the second Sunday after Labour Day to spread awareness and raise funds to help in the battle against cancer. Around two dozen events happen in the Vancouver area each year. Check out Vancouver Terry Fox Runs to find one near you.

2019 was the last year Port Moody event took place as a live, in-person event. That year the Terry Fox run at Rocky Point Park was on Sunday, September 15th. Registration opened at 9:00 am and the run started at 10:00 am. The event wrapped up by around 12:30 pm.

When the live events took place, there were three routes to choose from at the Port Moody Terry Fox Run. Folks had the option of doing a 2 km, 5 km or 10 km circuit. The three routes were in the same general area but had different turnaround points. All options were suitable for bikes, wheelchairs and strollers, and dogs on leash were welcome.

The same as other years, registration for the event was free in 2019. As the run is a fundraiser, however, participants are asked to make a donation and/or gather pledges from friends and family members to support the cause.

All funds raised at the event go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research. In 2019 the Port Moody run collected around $11,000 in pledges!
