Vancouver Friday Farmers Markets

Shipyard Market at Shipbuilders' Square

The Fort Langley Night Market is one of two summer markets that happen on Fridays in Metro Vancouver. The other is the Richmond Night Market.

The first of the two events is an artisan market that also features a bit of fresh produce. It’s a newer market and has been around since 2021. The second is famous for its food stalls and vendors selling imported goods from Asia. It has been happening on weekends since the turn of the millennium.

The Mercato Italian Market in Vancouver and Shipyard Night Market on the North Shore also used to happen on Fridays, but not anymore.

Friday Markets in Metro Vancouver

Most Lower Mainland farmers markets take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Fort Langley Night Market and Richmond Night Market aren’t farmers markets, but they are markets, and they are good ones.

Fort Langley Night Market

The Fort Langley Night Market is a new market that has been happening since 2021. The market is held at 9166 Glover Road in Fort Langley. It takes place from 5 to 10 pm on Friday nights throughout the summer. Admission is free.

The event doesn’t only feature market vendors selling fresh produce. It’s also a good place to eat, drink and relax with friends and family outdoors. There is often live music for all to enjoy, as well as small activities for children. The final day of the market in 2021, for example, featured performances by Doug Brookswood and Neil Harnett. There was also a special kids zone with face painting and more. Food trucks and beer vendors were also onsite.

In 2022 the Fort Langley Night Market featured about 40 vendors every Friday from June 17th until October 7th. 2023 dates will likely be similar, although exact details are to be confirmed.

Richmond Night Market

The Richmond Night Market is huge and very interesting. The market’s address is 8351 River Road. It’s not a farmers’ market. It’s an Asian night market.

At the Richmond market, instead of rows of stalls selling fresh produce, homemade jams and handmade jewellery, expect tasty Asian smells, Asian music and stuff made overseas. There are usually hundreds of vendors and thousands of people at the market.

In 2022 the Richmond Night Market was open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between April 29th and October 10th. General admission cost $6 for most people. Children below the age of 7 and seniors ages 60 and above entered for free.

In 2023 the Richmond Night Market opens on Friday, April 28th. Additional details are to be confirmed.
