Top Things to do in February
Below are some of the best things to do this month most years.
- Take your sweetheart out on a date to one of Vancouver’s Best Restaurants and/or somewhere inside to escape the rain and enjoy some of the Lower Mainland’s Best Entertainment.
- Check out the Best Things to do on Family Day in Vancouver during the Family Day long weekend.
- Ski or do other winter sport activities at Whistler-Blackcomb, Cypress, Grouse or Mount Seymour.
- Take the kids swimming at a rec centre (like West Vancouver’s West Vancouver Aquatic Centre) or skating (like at Richmond’s Olympic Oval). Why? Because they are fun activities, affordable, and it’ll probably be dark and wet outside.
- Go for a walk or hike somewhere at one of Vancouver’s Best Parks and Places in Nature (so long as the weather isn’t miserable and you dress appropriately).
- Free ice skating at Robson Square at the corner of Robson and Howe in downtown Vancouver, or at the Shipyards in the Lower Lonsdale District of North Vancouver (weather and temperatures permitting).
- As it rains a lot in February (which it likely will), check out Vancouver’s Best Things to do on a Rainy Day.
- Celebrate the Chinese New Year – the year usually begins in February with plenty of events around the Lower Mainland.
For more, check out Vancouver’s Best Places for Winter Activities.
Typical February Weather
February is a typical winter month in Vancouver – predictively cool, cloudy and wet.
Average high temperatures in February are around 8 degrees Celsius (or 46 F), and the lows are in the neighbourhood of about 1 (or 34 F).
February gets an average of about 125 mm of rain (or 5 inches). Some years though can be an exception, like in 2010 when it was warm, sunny and snowless around the time of the Olympics, and in 2015 when Vancouver was a lot warmer than many other parts of Canada.
Recommended Activities
Like January, February can be one of the best months for skiing or other outdoor recreational activities locally up at Cypress, Seymour and Grouse, or further afield up at Whistler. There is also skating at most community rec centres (so good places to go on rainy days), and free skating in downtown Vancouver at Robson Square at 800 Robson Street until the end of the month.
If you’re not into outdoor winter sports, then February is typically a good month for indoor activities. The Family Day Long Weekend can be an especially good day to be around and about as a tourist with the clan, with many of Vancouver’s top attractions offering special rates and activities.
Dine Out Vancouver Festival occurs during the last two weeks of January most years, but also usually extends into the beginning of February too.
