  • Festival du Bois – BC’s largest francophone festival held in Coquitlam at Mackin Park. Tonight is the Opening Night Contra Dance (where admission is free with advanced registration).
  • Hori7ons Digital Art Exhibition – an all-ages immersive and interactive experience exploring technology’s cultural footprint. It takes place at The Kent at 534 Cambie Street (between Gastown and BC Place Stadium).
  • Women’s Day Neon Paint Night – a fun art event with ultraviolet lights at the Pacific Arts Market at 1448 West Broadway. Admission to the 2-hour event includes neon paints, canvas and an apron to protect your clothes. (Both men and women are welcome.)
  • Monster Jam – a monster trucks event with giant vehicles doing crazy stunts in freestyle, racing and two-wheel skills competitions.
  • Lower Mainland Ski Hills – for ski conditions and to see how the mountains compare click Vancouver Ski Hills & Snow Conditions. (Note: Some resorts might not be open due to a lack of snow.)
  • Lower Mainland Parks – if good weather, various parks and places in nature are “best places” to be!

  • Bunnies & Booze – an Easter event for adults at Maan Farms in Abbotsford. The event includes beer or wine, appetizers, dinner, games and an Easter egg hunt. (TBC)
  • Food Truck Wars – a food truck festival event featuring dozens of food vendors, market vendors and live entertainment somewhere in the Lower Mainland. (TBC)
  • Saint Patrick’s Day Boat Party – an Irish-themed nightclub-style event out on the water with Vancouver Boat Parties. (Not happening in 2024.)

  • Discovery Days at the FRDC – special family-friendly activities take place at the Fraser River Discovery Centre in New Westminster throughout the school spring vacation. (TBC)
  • PlayDome – amusement rides and midway games at the indoor carnival at BC Place Stadium. (This event used to take place during Spring Break, but not for a few years. 2024 details are to be confirmed.)
  • Burnaby Village – the outdoor museum is open for the Spring Break holidays. Admission is free. (TBC)

Top Vancouver March Activities

Here are some of the best things to do in the month of March:

  1. Celebrate the spring weather by going for a walk or jog around the seawall at Stanley Park or anywhere around False Creek.
  2. Dust off the golf clubs or tennis rackets any day it’s not raining (or just do anything outside if it’s nice out and you get the chance).
  3. Paint your face, drink green beverages and enjoy St. Patrick’s Day at one of Vancouver’s Best Places to Eat and Drink (although maybe leave the face paint and green beer at home if you head out to one of the city’s finer establishments). Also, be sure to check out all of Vancouver’s great St. Patrick’s Activities at various locations around town.
  4. Check out Vancouver’s Top Free Things to do at Spring Break for a list of the best things to do with children for free during the school holidays.
  5. Enjoy the cherry blossoms around town. The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival doesn’t officially start until April most years, but there will likely be blossoms all over the region well before that.
  6. Look out for migrating birds returning to the area after their winter holidays down south. Good places to find them include the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta and Boundary Bay Regional Park near Tsawwassen.
  7. Enjoy some spring skiing up at the local ski hills, weather and snow conditions permitting.

Rainy Day Activities IconThe days are beginning to get longer and warmer, and it’s starting to rain a little less by the time March rolls around. Average high temperatures this month are up to 12 degrees C or so (or 54 F), and the lows in the range of 2 to 5 C (or 36 to 41 F).

March usually expects to get about 110 mm of rain (or 4.4 inches), so you can expect to need your umbrella a little less than in the winter months.

In general, March is starting to get close to a nice time of year for Vancouver, although the trees are still only just beginning to get their leaves again.

 

Recommended March Activities

Most years March can be a fantastic month for spring skiing, including night skiing now that the sun is setting increasingly later in the day. The snow is starting to get wetter than normal, but the extra sun and warm temperatures at Cypress Mountain, Mt. Seymour and Grouse Mountain can make the spring skiing exceptional, and Whistler with its higher elevations.

If the weather is good, instead of skiing, the best things to do include checking out all of Vancouver’s Best Places in Parks and Nature, including the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta where they can sometimes expect gazillions of snow geese. On March 17 and the weekend before and/or after, bars are good places to find crowds of happy people with green faces drinking green beer celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
